Soca king, Rihanna top BMAs

RIHANNA and Lil Rick dominated the night when the eighth Barbados Music Awards came off at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre last Sunday.
Rihanna, whose impact was predictable, took the top awards for the year in the categories of Female Act of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year and Pop Alternative Artist.
Lil Rick was next in line securing Song Writer of the Year, Soca/Calypso Artist of the Year, Male Entertainer of the Year and the Life Time Achievement Award.
The People’s Choice Social Media Award went to Empress Roli, Reggae Artist of the Year to Buggy, Producer of the Year to Dwayne Antrobus, Best New Artist to Malissa Alanna and Soul R&B Artiste Hal Linton.
Coverdrive was voted Band of the Year and also got an Award of Excellence, Ci Ci Jazz Artist of the Year, A Few Good Men Gospel Artist of the Year and ViZion Rap – Hip Hop Artist of the Year,
An Award of Excellence also went Ricky Stoute while Grammy nominated Hip Hop Canadian Producers Tone Mason copped an International Award of Excellence.
The show also created a stage for a number performers to show case their talent.
A Few Good Men headed the list as standout artistes exuding lots of charisma and synergy, while ViZion continues to impress with his rap. Seasoned jazz singer Ci Ci was exceptional, while veteran Wayne Daisley mesmerised the audience with his vocals. (JS)
