BARBADOS HAS benefited greatly from sports tourism through the hosting of international sporting tournaments, with Britain being one of its main suppliers.
That is according to Petra Roach, vice-president of sales and marketing at the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) in Britain.
She said that sports tourism had not only helped to boost the island’s economy but also to put Barbados on the map.
Speaking to MIDWEEK SPORT shortly after a Press conference to launch the third annual British Airways Football Legends Invitational Tournament at Kensington Oval yesterday, Roach referred to Barbados as the “ideal destination for international sporting events”.
“Barbados is the best-loved Caribbean island for British people,” she declared. “And, as an island, Barbados has limited resources and I think that it is important that we exploit whatever natural resources we have.”
