Brathwaite’s Construction/Republic Bank St Catherine remained top of Zone A with a maximum 16 points from four games in a hard-fought victory by eight runs yesterday over home team Police at Weymouth ‘A’, in the Barbados Cricket Association’s Sagicor General Super Cup.

Visitors St Catherine battled to 185 for 8 from 35 overs after play was delayed due to a wet outfield. Left-handed opener Omar Phillips fought gallantly for 82 while captain Shamar Cooke contributed 32. A brilliant 61 from 54 balls with 5 fours and three sixes by Larry Babb was not enough as the cops were bowled out for 177 in 34.5 overs. Left-armer Alston Bobb took four for 44 to do the damage for the St Catherine.

The match of the round in Zone A was contested at Wildey where Massy Stores Spartan won a nail-biter off the last ball by six wickets over home team Lime. The final over started with the Parkites needing nine runs; three were needed off the last ball. Captain and opener Akeem Springer put the icing on the cake in an unbeaten match-winning knock of 84 from 96 balls with four sixes by hitting Ryan Nurse just over long-on to seal a famous victory.

Earlier Lime built their total of 176 for nine in 31 overs around a blistering 68 in 53 balls with six sixes from Ashley Nurse. Chaim Holder took four wickets in the final over including a hat-trick as he and left-arm spinner snared four for 25 and 28 respectively. Spartan’s winning reply of 180 for six was built around an opening stand of 68 between Springer and Rashidi Boucher (23).

At Friendship, Premix & Precast Yorkshire’s fine run continued with their third victory in four matches. The home team won by six wickets over Digicel Carlton. Yorkshire were set 172 for victory and got home with seven overs to spare.

Their reply of 175 for four in 43 overs was built around knocks of 46 by Kevin Ramsay, captain Kurt Wilkinson, an unbeaten 41 and Akeem Saunders 39. Off-spinner Jamar Layne, who scored an unbeaten 18 in Yorkshire’s response, was instrumental in Carlton’s demise with four for 27 as the Black Rock were dismissed for 171 in 44.4 overs. Seven batsmen got into double figures with only all-rounder Adrian Caddle (42), Karan Bhola(26) and Simon Naitram (25) getting a meaningful score.

At the Pine Basin, the previously winless Ince Transport MTW won their first game by defeating the winless BRC BCL by seven wickets. BCL batted first after the game had been reduced to 47 overs a side and batted slowly to be all out for 128 in 45 overs.

The Blenheim-based team were undone by seamer Fabian Cox who took four for 24 and off-spinner Kevin Gittens three for 19. Antonio Miller top-scored with 30 while Ishmeal Lucas contributed 26 for BCL. MTW won in 31.3 overs, replying with 131 for three with Kevin Gittens completing a good all-round match to be 48 not out. Raymond Kellman also remained unbeaten on 39 with assistance from Curtis Green who made 19. (HE)
