BROOKLYN – St Lucia’s leading goalscorer in the New York Caribbean Cup, Phillip Tisson, was shot dead early Monday morning, police have confirmed.
Reports said the 27-year-old had just finished celebrating his team’s 1-0 victory over St Kitts and Nevis when he was killed by an unidentified gunman a short distance from a club in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn.
The striker, who arrived in Brooklyn in May had scored five goals in the 2010 campaign. He also represented St Lucia’s national team during its recent World Cup campaign.
Police said the gunman opened fire on a car where Tisson and other passengers sat, a short distance from the Tropix nightclub on Carroll Street and Utica Avenue. (CMC)

I sincerely hope your newspaper follows up on this tragic story in the weeks ahead. I imagine many readers, like me, are eager to know what motivated this criminal act.
While no motive other than self-defence justifies killing another human being, one would shudder if this was about the role this unfortunate victim played in a soccer match.

Comment Linknever seem to be able to get you off my mind
Were ever I go it’s like your right there
Beside me holding my hand
It’s little things that remind me of you
Like the way you use to look into my eyes
Which always made me feel alive
The way we used to fight over stupid things
Like who loved who the most
Sometimes late at night l picture you laying next to me
I softly whisper in your ear “l love you”
Waiting for you to reply
But silence is all that can be found
I look at my palm the words that were once written there were
Vanished
The only things left are precious memories
Memories of you and me once upon a time
There the only thing that can’t be taken
Its seems like forever since I’ve held you in my arms
How I deeply miss you
I gave all my heart
To the one I loved
And the depth is unbelievable
I gave all I could and managed to fail
You were my wings
My guidance
You showed me how to fly
But didn’t warn me that I would fall this hard
