Maliki Gill and Joshua John showed tremendous skill, speed and promise to respectively lead St Mary’s and Luther Thorne into tomorrow’s finals of the competition at the CGI Primary Schools Hockey Camp which began yesterday at the Netball Stadium.
Gill and John were tops with three goals each as Luther Thorne earned seven points to win the league.
St Mary’s placed second with five points and St Giles third with four.
The positions were reversed in the skills section, with Wesley Hall and St Giles being the other teams which took part in the Zone One battles.
John and Gill also starred when their teams clashed in the final match of the day with the game ending 2-2.
John and Christian Goddard-Yearwood scored for Luther Thorne while Gill and Donte Trotman struck for St Mary’s.
Although St Giles did not advance, they showed glimpses of a hockey future with Amon Griffith impressing. St Giles took out Wesley Hall 3-0, with Griffith beating the goalkeeper twice while Damar Maloney scored the clincher.
Wesley Hall were swamped 4-0 by St Mary’s, thank to doubles from Gill and Tyreke Goddard-Greenidge.
St Mary’s were held to a 1-1 draw by St Giles, with St Giles’ Marico Moore equalling the goal from Shane Bishop.
Today’s Zone Two action should see Eden Lodge, St Stephen’s, Lawrence T. Gay, Hilda Skeene, Hillaby Turner’s Hall, Sharon Primary, A. DaCosta Edwards Primary and All Saints clashing at the Netball Stadium from 9 a.m. (KB)
