St Michael school sixth form delayed

THE ST MICHAEL SCHOOL principal Shelton Perkins has disclosed that the promised sixth form at the school will not be available for the start of the new school term in September as expected.
Minister of Education Ronald Jones had announced in December 2008 that with his ministry faced with an excess of 250 applicants for sixth form places, a sixth form would be set up at The St Michael School by September 2009. With no realisation of the plans by that date, a September 2010 beginning was anticipated.
But yesterday Perkins explained: “We would have liked to start, but the recession has caused a setback as the implementation of the sixth form would mean increasing staff [and] construction of new facilities, so the development will be held back until things get better.”
However, he gave the assurance that the project was still very much in the works.
The principal also said that when the sixth form was implemented at The St Michael School, the curriculum would not offer all the areas available at the other sixth form schools.
“Courses in business, science and law will be offered on the basis of the needs of the applicants,” Perkins said.(LK)

I entered the Christ Church Foundation School (CCFS) at age 11 in 1982 a 6th form was also promised for that school as well, I am now 39; nothing has happened as yet. Mr. Perkins a former Teacher of the CCFS will continue to wait.

Comment LinkGov’t has no money for higher education, but have it to purchase rihanna land! Keeping in mind, she could buy the land her self! I have an idea, have rihanna donate money to make 6 form at St. Michaels school a dream! Just a thought! I’m so glad I don’t live in Bim no more! When I read crap like this, it just makes me upset to no end!

Comment LinkThe St Michael School was promised a sixth form since in the late 1960’s when I was a student there. My son attended the school in the mid-1990’s and at that time the school was promised a sixth form. Are the authorities making ‘sport’ at the success of the students at the St Michael School? Will the Foundation School also have to wait for their sixth form???
