CALYPSONIAN Black Stalin (Dr Leroy Calliste), was said to be “in a good mood” as he celebrated his 73rd birthday yesterday at the San Fernando General Hospital surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Chief executive officer of the South-West Regional Health Authority (SWRHA) said in a brief visit with Black Stalin that he appeared “happy and smiling” from his hospital bed.
Gosine said, “The family was there with him for his birthday. He was smiling and in a good mood. The day before the chairman (of SWRHA Dr Lackram Bodoe) and I visited with him. He spoke a little.”
On Sunday, Black Stalin was hospitalised after suffering a mild stroke.
Yesterday his wife, Patsy, said that he underwent a blood test and a CT Scan.
His friend, musician Roy Cape, told the Express he saw him on Tuesday, and he believed “he will pull through”.
Cape said, “He is a strong guy. His brain is alert, he is identifying people. Once your brain is clicking anything is possible. I think he will come back from all of this. We are all praying for him because he is so important to all of us.”
He said callers from Japan, Grenada and New York were in contact with him expressing their concern for Black Stalin.
Yesterday, Black Stalin was visited by calypsonians Valentino, and Kurt Allen, and on Tuesday, he was also visited by calypsonians Tigress, Bally and Luta, and Community Development Minister Winston “Gypsy” Peters. (Trinidad Express)
