Graduating students of the Barbados Community College Associate Degree in Dance programme took to the stage with enthusiasm and pulled out all the stops to impress an appreciative audience at Frank Collymore Hall last Saturday.
The dancers coming out of the two-year programme – Shameka Walters, Rene Blackman, Keisha Squires, Rohan Blanche and Erin Griffith – each offered a solo and a choreographed piece.
There was also an exhibition by first-year students Danielle Alleng, Amaris Clarke, Jai Clarke, Kayla Hinds, Maisha Jordan and Chante McDonald.
Griffith’s provocative solo piece Desnudo (Naked) and that of Blanche who did Cry Of My Soul stood out for their raw emotional expression and outspokeness.
The students had just finished the intensive course that exposed them to the art, science and techniques of dance, and Saturday’s Portfolio Dance 2013 entitled Out Of The Woods gave the class a platform to show off. (JS)
