STUMPS PULLED

Cricket matches have been temporarily no-balled at Kensington Oval until after Christmas as the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA) undertakes a full-scale pitch and outfield restoration programme.

As a result, the patchy outfield at the “Mecca”, with several grassless areas, especially to the Joel Garner End at the northern section and the playing surfaces, will be getting a make-over, which is expected to cost the BCA thousands of dollars.

“The BCA has embarked upon a restoration of the pitch and field at Kensington Oval. As a result, we have discontinued any cricket activity at the venue during the November 6 to December 25 period,” BCA’s director of cricket Steven Leslie told the DAILY NATION yesterday.

He said rehabilitation of the outfield was being immediately carried out because it was not at the acceptable standard required for international cricket. (EZS)
