Talkback on Church and society

Tue, April 17, 2012 - 12:57 PM

Is the Church losing society or is society losing the Church?

That’s the topic to be discussed at The Nation’s Talkback tomorrow night at the Anne Johnson Auditorium, St Gabriel’s School, Collymore Rock, St Michael.

Panellists include Monsignor Vincent Harcourt Blackett, vicar general of the Roman Cathloic Church, Bishop Winston Clarke, acting president of the Barbados Evangelical Association, Reverend Lucille Baird of Mount Zion Mission Inc and Father Michael Maxwell, rector of the Holy Trinity Anglican Church.

Moderator for the town hall meeting is Sunday Sun Editor Bryan Walker.

The Nation will also be Live Blogging at the event and we invite our readers across the world to join us online.

The event starts at 7:30 p.m. (CM)

the panel looks very one sided to me - I only see religious leaders on it who will bring a slanted opinion to the table. So really, there will be no real discussion, only more of trying to stuff opinions down the public's throat.

This is a rather pathetic joke: a monsignor, a reverend, a Father, a Bishop and an evangelist. It appears that they are too afraid to listen to anything else but their own echo.

There is not single element more damaging to Barbados's progress in the 21st century than the regressive Christian fairy tales bequeathed by a history of slavery.

It is long past the time when society should lose the church.

I'm so sorry that I won't be able to join in the live blogging tonight. However, I think it is great that there is a religious forum to remind people that when all else fails the church is still there...never mind the nay-sayers, atheists, agnostics, and infidels who have nothing constructive to offer.
