The Jamaica Tallawahs staged an amazing comeback today to reach the second semi-final of the Caribbean Premier League T20 Cricket Tournament against the Guyana Amazon Warriors at Warner Park, St Kitts.
An unbeaten seven-wicket partnership of 82 between Andre Russell and Juan “Rusty” Theron saw Tallawahs to 158 for six and a four-wicket victory over the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel who scored 155 for six off their 20.
Seemingly dead and buried at 76 for six, Russell hit 62 off 27 and Theron 18 off 13. Needing four runs off three balls, Theron hit a six to seal the victory.
Nkrumah Bonner chipped in with 39 off 41 after Chris Gayle failed to fire, out for one off three balls. Sulieman Benn took three for 27.
Evin Lewis dropped Russell twice late in the innings, which could have changed the state of the game.
Earlier, Trinidad and Tobago were fired to their total by Ross Taylor, who hit 70 off 44. Darren Bravo scored 33, Lewis 18 and Kevin O’Brien 11. Dave Bernard took three for 19 and Theron two for 32.
The winner of the match between the Tallawahs and Amazon Warriors will play Barbados Tridents on Saturday at 4 p.m.
