Teachers paid

Teachers paid

STRIKING TEACHERS of Alexandra School have been given at least one more reason to smile as they make their way back into the classroom today.

A day after Prime Minister Freundel Stuart announced an end to their crippling three-week strike, members of the group of 30 educators were able to collect their regular pay yesterday, without facing any deductions for the period they had stayed away from work.

This, despite a warning by a letter from the Acting Permanent Secretary Bruce Alleyne and copied to Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) earlier this month, that BSTU members were in danger of having their pay docked in keeping with the Public Service Act, The Code Of Conduct And Ethics, Paragraph 20 (2).

Education officials explained that with the SmartStream system payments are usually processed by the first week of the month, meaning that the teachers could still face deductions next month.

A roll of B**SH***!!!!!!!!!

You mean to tell me that after staying away from the classroom for 3 weeks that them brutes still turn around and get pay.

CALLING 1, CALLING ALL….TEACHERS strike next month again and you will be guaranteed a full salary at the end of the month.

I don’t know who the Education officials trying to fool by saying that the teachers could still face deductions next month. P-L-E-A-S-E-E-E-E!!!!!!

Setting a bad precedent for others to follow.

According to reports, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart announced that the 30 educators who took part in the crippling three-week strike will collect their REGULAR PAY without facing any deductions for the period they had stayed away from work. HAPPY CHRISTMAS IN JANUARY!  This is a bitter pill to swallow and should be rightly so for the parents with children at Alexandra school.  Reason being, the children, especially the fourth and fifth formers who are preparing to do their CXCs, have lost valuable teaching time that WILL NEVER BE REGAINED, no matter how the 30 educators try because “TIME LOST IS GONE FOREVER”.  The 30 educators can try to make up for the lost time, by extending their teaching hours and/or having Saturday and Sunday classes, which I believe is the right thing to do.  Now done get me wrong, I am not for or against anyone and I strongly believe that the Prime Minister did the right thing by getting the 30 educators to go back into the classrooms, but I think that this “full pay” issue is going to raise some interesting questions like, what are the teachers who did not participate in strike going to get? Are they going to get a bonus or a reward for doing double duty? Are they going to partner with the 30 educators that will be working to recoup the “LOST TIME”?  Will they agree to extend their working hours and/or work on Saturday and/or Sunday to help the 30 educators recoup the “LOST TIME”? Are things really going to be cohesive at Alexandra school with all these unanswered questions? HMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!

even though i am not privy to the complete article,i can gather ,1. that the reason that the teachers were paid was because of an automated electronic payroll system generated in the first week of the month. 2.it was mentioned that they may still be docked payroll next month. Can you imagine the possibility of these two parties working together?if we really have the students interests at heart, shouldn’t that be the primary focus of our energies? We summoned the prime minister to make a decision, and he did. a resolve to an issue that was simmering for years and only came to a boil when industrial action was taken. just because the resolve wasn’t what they wanted , arlene, annette, ficelle and allison appears to not content with the pm decision. When mrs redman decided it wasn’t in the best interest of those who she represented not to attend the meeting with mr.jones et al. she was just short of being charactered asassinated,by the education minister and all his supporters.now isn’t it hyprocritical for you to be exhibiting that same behavior that you accused her of.If we are to work together ,i suggest we learn from the mistakes that were made that allowed this crisis to develope, seek to mend relationship between the two sides, encourage harmony, and pratice principles like compromise, forgiveness, communication.and respect
