‘The last straw’

This is the last straw.
That is how head of the People’s Empowerment Party, David Comissiong, is describing last Friday’s hint by Minister of Health John Boyce that Barbadians may have to pay user fees to access health care at public facilities.
Stating that he was “appalled” at the news, Comissiong said it seemed to him that the current administration was demolishing the social rights that past generations had sacrificed and struggled so hard to develop.
“I would like to say to them, if they are incapable of running this country in such a way as to preserve these fundamental social rights of the Barbadian people – that is the right to free education, the right to free health care – then they should really relinquish the reins of Government and let somebody else try,” he said.
