With the hurricane season approaching, trees at several beach facilities across the island are being trimmed and checked for soundness.
The National Conservation Commission, in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and Works, today started the process of trimming trees at the Rockley Beach Facility.
The NCC’s officer in charge of the work in the southern zone, O’Brian Haynes, said the trimming, which continues today, was being done for safety concerns and also in preparation for the hurricane season.
He said that the focus would be on the frequently used beaches and work would also be undertaken at Enterprise Beach.
“We are looking to make sure that the system of the tree is in good health and if there are any trees that have a problem with the root system they will be taken out,” he said.The hurricane season starts June 1 and continues through to the end of November. (LK)
