GUIDED BY an excellent allround performance from vice-captain Stafanie Taylor, West Indies won the Women’s Tri-Nation Twenty20 cricket series, easily defeating England by eight wickets in the final at Kensington Oval last night.
Taylor followed up a tidy spell of off-spin bowling (4-1-8-1) in England’s total of 115 for five off their 20 overs with an unbeaten knock of 51 as West Indies won with 19 balls to spare, scoring 119 for two in 16.5 overs.
Player of the Match Taylor stroked five fours in her 47-ball knock and featured in a match-winning unbroken third-wicket partnership of 78 runs with Player of the Series Deandra Dottin, who made a typically attacking 46 not out.
Dottin’s innings was laced with four fours and a six off 35 balls and she finished the game in grand style with a powerfully-struck straight boundary, much to the delight of the 3 000-strong crowd in a packed 3Ws Stand.
