Tuition jam

There is a further hike in tuition fees for Barbadian law students in Trinidad.

And Government is suggesting it should be paid in three weeks time.

They were told by Hugh Wooding Law School principal Miriam Samaru at a meeting yesterday afternoon that they must pay TT$13 340 ($4 220.18) in total.

That figure is about BDS$1 000 more than what they were told they would have to pay last week when they went to register.

The increase results from the Government’s decision to make University of the West Indies (UWI) students pay their tuition costs, a break from the previous practice of the state undertaking the entire bill. The students received confirmation of the new cost when they went to register on September 9. (SP)
