?A PROPOSAL to bring an end to a two-year-old police promotions’ dispute has been rejected by the Police Service Commission.
The latest development follows a recent High Court hearing in which Acting Commissioner of Police Tyrone Griffith issued a detailed and comprehensive affidavit to the court outlining that close to 150 vacancies were available to be filled in the force.
It is understood that the existing vacancies could facilitate the promotions of the 16 disgruntled officers who secured a high court injunction two years ago.
They complained of being unlawfully removed from the promotion list, as well as a batch of other promotions which were alternately being considered by the Commission.
However, sources told the WEEKEND NATION yesterday that when the matter came up for hearing before Justice Margaret Reifer recently, the commissioner’s proposal was turned down by the service commission through legal representative, attorney at law Tariq Khan.
