We told you so!
That’s how the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) responded to the National Conservation Commission (NCC) regarding the drowning of 18-year-old Shaquille Denny at Crane Beach, St Philip.
“We warned the NCC about the likelihood of something like that occurring and they kept on giving false information to the public so as to counter what we were saying and what the lifeguards have been saying,” NUPW general secretary Dennis Clarke told the WEEKEND NATION yesterday.
His comments were in reaction to yesterday’s DAILY NATION lead story which pointed out there were no lifeguards on duty at the popular beach when the teenage Guyanese visitor drowned last week Thursday.
Clarke described NCC general manager Keith Neblett’s reaction to the tragedy as “making fancy excuses” and added that there were other popular beaches which did not have adequate lifeguard coverage.
