Wet for the cause

Barbadians have an opportunity to help the Challenor Creative Arts Training Centre raise some much needed funds.

They can simply participate in the craze that is sweeping the world – the Ice Bucket Challenge – and be daring for a worthwhile local cause.

Soca artiste Basil Yarde Jr has been the main person behind the local effort, taking to social media and doing some one-on-one especially with friends and fellow artistes to get them on board in this effort.

To highlight the plight of the Challenor Centre, which caters to approximately 80 students at its facility in the St Thomas highlands, Yarde, along with the centre’s chief executive officer Sharon Taitt, the deputy chair of its board, parliamentarian James Paul, and staff member Sheldene Applewhaite yesterday hosted a Press conference.

They outlined why the public and corporate and individual citizens need to give support whether with money, time or expertise.

In an effort to put his mouth where his interest is, Yarde has been encouraging people and companies to participate in the challenge. It’s simply $10 for those who carry out the action and for those who pledge but don’t carry through it’s $50. All the funds will go to the centre. When he stops collecting on September 1, all you need to do is give the funds directly to the centre. (ES)
