What’s Trending: Bajans brace and Ernesto bypasses Barbados

The Nations’s Associate Editor, Sherie Holder-Olutayo takes a look at what’s trending today in Barbados.

Even though the worst of Tropical Strom Ernesto seems to have bypassed Barbados, many people who prepared themselves and their homes with the news of the approaching storm are still being watchful. While many people are thankful that the storm missed us, several of our online readers are sending words of caution. Here’s what some of them had to say:

Bim Bum: And (predictably?) nothing happened overnight! Instead it waited until the centre of circulation was all the way down near St. Lucia to start bringing afterthought weather, up from the south. Wacky weather! Ernesto has amounted to nothing more than a gusty squally morning- — okay maybe whole day.  Keep an eye on what just came off the African coast! It's near the Cape Verde islands, presently but it was swirling from the time it came off the coast. This one following Ernesto could be the real McCoy, instead!

Carl Harper: Now that tropical storm Ernesto has all but past Barbados, I hope I do not hear self-righteous Bajans singing our praises of how "God is Bajan" that is why He spared us - once again. The call-in programs are often inundated with the doubtful, following near misses, saying how Government issues unnecessary warnings as a way of collusion with the private sector (mainly supermarkets and hardware stores) to boost their sagging sales. I think there is another weather system out there. Don't eat your corned beef and crackers just yet.

Paul Forde: Ernesto brought company behind her. We are having another one in 48 hours.

Deswyn Haynes: This one is developing more rapidly than Ernesto. I guess its time to brace for impact once again.
