The Nation’s Associate Editor, Sherie Holder-Olutayo takes a look at what’s trending today in Barbados.
Readers are talking about the Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler’s performance booklet reminding his constituents of the work he has done during the past five years. Here are some of their comments.
Bim Bum: Well done, Chris. You show them the way! Looks very professional!
Deswyn Haynes: People are wondering who paid for the books, I am wondering how many trees were killed in the process to make them. How many people in Barbados actually read these types of books. I hope there's an online link.
Buzz Advertising Ltd: My question is, who paid for these 5,000 booklets to be printed.
Carl Harper: With only a 2.9% swing required to topple Sinckler in a national swing of 7.0% against the DLP, he will need to also make DVDs to try to save his seat on elections day - if it is ever called anytime in this sixth year of rule. Given what can only be considered as PM Stuart denying Barbadians the right to exercise their democratic freedom within five years from the date of last elections, it is clear that there is discontent within the DLP, as every MP and candidate appears to be "brekkin fuh themselves." Anytime an incumbent candidate is in a statistical position in which Sinckler finds himself, he must be very worried about his political future.I am sure the BLP will deploy massive resources in support of its candidate, Gregory Nicholls, as statistically, Sinckler's seat is the easiest to win. The recent CADRES Polls that traditionally uses a +/- 5% margin of error, makes Sinckler's St Michael North West seat the most vulnerable. With his leadership popularity falling from last year, he must be only hoping that he can hold on for dear life and buck the trend.
