The Nation’s Associate Editor, Sherie Holder-Olutayo takes a look at what’s trending today in Barbados.
The issue of predial larceny has our online readers talking after the Sunday Sun revealed that a local farmer, Michael Pile, lost more than $2 000 when thieves dug up his sweet potatoes and carrots. Our online readers weighed in on this story.
Conchita Moseley: Heartbreaking situation!!! They got in before you did, shame you did not reap a week earlier. This can't be a single handed job has to be a gang! Like you said, don't allow it to put you off doing the job you love. Count your losses this time be prepared for the future. There is an old Bajan say"The watchman is watching you, but who is watching the watchman.?"
Margaret Ross: What a shame! Looks like you're going to have to set a trap Mr. Pile. This way, if someone is caught, I bet you whomever is doing this wouldn't try to do it again. Also, you should get a couple of pit bulls if you don't have any already. Good luck!
C Holder: And nothing continues to be done about predial larceny in this country. Our farmers who make such a tremendous investment continue to be ignored and frustrated by a system that has only paid lip service to agriculture. Shameful and disgusting!
