The Nation’s Associate Editor looks at what’s trending today in Barbados.
A streaker took centre stage at Kensington Oval running onto the field during last night’s Caribbean Twenty20 cricket semifinal between Barbados and Trinidad. The naked intruder was able to race well past the pitch before being apprehended by security guards. Here’s what some of our online readers had to say.
Miranda Douglas: Look if the ground wasn’t so dirty I would have rolled up. I laughed till my belly hurt me. Don’t mind the Bajans lost, by far the highlight of the night. Priceless.
Daffodil Peters: Best part of the match, absolutely made my night.
Kelvin Bear: That's what I’m talking about. It happens in all kinds of sports. It’s about time the cricket era starts.
Another story that has readers talking was the “Mother of 5 needs a house”. The plight of Jacqueline Blunt an unemployed mother seeking housing from the National Housing Corporation sparked a heated debate among our online readers.
Young Dennis: This story doesn't surprise me. I expected a lot of women to come out of cupboards, with woeful stories, parading the children for the public to shed tears and "hi-jack" the housing department. The woman who "occupied" a house, unlawfully I might add, used the same strategy and became a house-owner, after the story became a saga. Boyfriend threw her out and she was homeless and all along she was smirking, because the sight of the children and their cuteness tugged at our hearts and before we could finished our "sighs", it was announced she had a new home. The stories to follow will have the same story-line, but the names will change to protect the innocent..
Arlene Browne: This story got me so heated…No. 1:- C'dear if you had nowhere to go and your mother take you in, you got to abide by your mother rules Jacqueline. Like it or lump it. You are only begging for a lodging.
No. 2:- The majority of mothers love their children and want the best for them. You being 40 years old and unemployed with 5 children, is giving your mother tremendous grief. She wants you to pull up your socks and do better for your children. As far as I can see she is trying to save you from yourself so you wouldn't get pregnant with baby No. 6.
No. 3:- I feel so bad for that little girl in the paper. You have to set an example for your children and right now you are not doing that. In light of all that was said Jacqueline need to get with the program and get out there and get for herself and her children. If you live at Mummy you got to abide by mummy rules. It is as simple as that!
