What’s Trending: Westbury tourist spot?
Mon, August 27, 2012 - 9:17 AM
The Nation’s Online Editor Carol Martindale looks at What’s Trending today in Barbados.
Readers are still talking about the suggestion to make Westbury New Road in St Michael a tourist attraction.
The area, once home to Barbadian mega star Rihanna, is now attracting a lot of tourist and media attention. They are curious to see where the singer used to live in Barbados and visit the area when they travel here.
Our readers commented on the suggestion from residents, which was also addressed by local tourism officials in the SUNDAY SUN.
Jo-Anne B Jordan: “Are people crazy? The birth home of The Right Excellent Errol Barrow is falling to pieces; the only stable thing on the home of Sir Frank Worrell was the National Trust Plaque. I would more pay money for these homes to be restored and be turned into a museum of history rather than where Ms Fenty once lived.”
Sasha Ifill: “The last time I checked, the Government was not paying our taxes on this home so why should they make it a tourist attraction?...”
Lisa Taylor: “Give me a break. A museum? I am one of her biggest fans but what would that mean? I am sure that Government can find a few more ways to waste our taxes than to do that. Nonsense.”
