What’s Trending:Barbados better off?
Tue, June 19, 2012 - 8:39 AM
The Nation’s Online Editor Carol Martindale looks at What’s Trending in Barbados today.
Some readers have taken a turn this morning in Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler for his comment that Barbados is doing a lot better than several other countries.
He said that while there are some challenges and struggles, Barbados is not doing badly in this environment.
Some readers had a different take on the matter.
Raquel Gilkes: We were always better off than Afghanistan and sub-Sahara Africa. Why are we worse off than we were in 2007? This is not the change you promised.”
Wayne T Griffith: “It is really disgusting this attitude where this Government is always quick to compare our current state with countries we were always ahead of, and not ready to set a standard for where we should be. Especially considering that everything is worse since they took office. I call it the "fatted-calf" mentality.”
Brownsugagal Jozi: “There is a saying about persons who have to look for the faults in others to make themselves feel good about themselves. Seems that Minister Sinckler subscribes to this ‘which countries are you doing better than’ and as Minister of Finance in a Government that promised so much change does this fact that you are doing better than some countries make you sleep better at night? Shame on you.”
Titus Thomas: "Mr Sinkler, I sincerely hope that very soon you and our Prime Minister realize that this country would be better off without your government.”
