What’s Trending:Eyes on PM Stuart

Mon, January 16, 2012 - 9:30 AM

The Nation's Online Editor Carol Martindale looks at What's Trending today in Barbados.

The eyes of the nation are again on Prime Minister Freundel Stuart. This time they are waiting to see what he will do to solve the ongoing Alexandra School dispute.

Stuart says he plans to bring a swift end to the teaching impasse at the St Peter School.

He says he will make decisions “without fear or favour”, describing the situation as unfortunate.

After Saturday’s marathon meeting between Minister of Education Ronald Jones and officials from the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU)  which resulted in an impasse, many are waiting to see what Stuart will do and how he resolve this matter.

Our readers are watching on, some are optimistic that the PM will solve it, others are not holding out much hope.

Sharon Woolley: “How can Freundel Stuart say children first when he has allowed it to go on so long? I would say it was a disgrace not unfortunate”.

Jamar Hinkson: “Let's just see how "swift" this action goes and if any "heads will roll" this time around.”

Conchita Moseley: “ I hope that Mr Stuart and Mr Jones make the right decision and caution the 30 of them (Alexandra School teachers).

Brownsugagal Jozi: “I hope Mr. Stuart brings an end to this sooner rather than later because it is the children who continue to suffer.”

Mrs Greaves should know better.  Such behaviour is despicable.  She wanted to be principal of St Lucy Secondary a few years ago.  Would she like her teachers to behave in such a disrespectful manner to her if she had got that job? Grow up…girl!!
Jeff is right…hang in there.  I hope the PM removes her from the school.  After all she does not think the students are good enough for her to teach….but clearly she does not mind collecting the cheque at the end of the month….or did she give it back.  After all she did not earn it.
