The Nation’s Online Editor Carol Martindale looks at What’s Trending today in Barbados.
When our online audience read that former Barbados Labour Party candidate Richard Arthur was out on bail after spending a night behind bars, they let their feelings be known on our Facebook page.
Arthur was remanded on Thursday after appearing on ammunition charges at the Holetown Magistrate’s Court.
Some readers were sympathetic, others were not. Some cautioned though that instead of rushing to a swift judgment, justice be allowed to run its course.
Philip Corbin: “It would be good if you people would withhold your condemnations until you hear exactly what the charges are against Mr. Arthur.”
Fabian Peters: “I am sure there are people in Barbados with more ammo than him.”
Dwayne Greenidge: “Bajans take pleasure in really hurting people when they are down. Innocent until proven guilty. In the absence of evidence I can't join the campaign to discredit him.”
News that gun dealer Michael Ian Holder was charged with failing to register his transactions and with possession of 21 guns, some of them high-powered weapons – also sent our readers into a frenzy.
John Nicholls: “One question. Did these guns and ammo come through any of our ports of entry ? If yes what about the required documentation? Would someone explain?”
