MUMBAI – Organisers of the Indian Premier League have decided to compensate international boards around the world with ten per cent of foreign players’ fees.
This decision follows a meeting of the General Council on Sunday. It intended to keep other cricket boards happy, after releasing their best players for the League, and the other reason is to keep the players’ agents out of the arrangement.
“This is the opinion of the general council,” said Board of Control for Cricket in India president Shashank Manohar.
“We don’t want the role of any agents. All player contracts will now be managed by BCCI, and signed by BCCI, along with the franchise and the player.
“A new player registration and contract management process will be detailed soon.
“No player contracts can be signed until then. Player regulations for 2011 season will be circulated soon to all franchisees, which will detail the player contract, registration and signing process.”
This all means that the West Indies Cricket Board can benefit from having players like Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Kemar Roach, and Adrian Barath playing in the IPL. (CMC)
