ST GEORGE’S, Grenada – When West Indies were reeling on 34 for five, victory against Bangladesh in the first One-Day International seemed virtually impossible.
But a sixth-wicket stand of 145 between Kieron Pollard and Denesh Ramdin rescued West Indies and ensured a comfortable three-wicket victory at the National Stadium.
Replying to Bangladesh’s 217 for nine in 50 overs, West Indies reached 219 for seven with 62 balls remaining.
Ramdin scored 74 off 76 balls, and when Pollard fell for 89, West Indies needed just 17 runs to complete the victory. Pollard’s 89 came off 70 balls, while Holder stroked a quick 22 off 15 balls.
Al-Amin Hussain took four for 51.
Earlier, opener Anamal Haque scored a century to lead Bangladesh to 217 for nine.
Haque scored 109 off 138 balls, comprising 11 fours and one six.
West Indies captain Dwayne Bravo took four wickets for 32 runs.
