Women challenged Marilyn Rice-Bowen: Fight to make maintenance fund a reality.

Mon, May 14, 2012 - 12:06 AM

WOMEN, STAND UP and challenge local authorities to make the child maintenance fund a fully functioning reality, said Marilyn Rice-Bowen, president of the Young Women’s Christian Association.

She was speaking at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, addressing the graduation ceremony of the King’s Daughter programme organized by the Women Of Excellence & Empowerment Ministries to help each participant become a better “woman of God”.

Telling the 174 graduates that Barbadian women have the power to raise their voices and speak against injustice in society, Rice-Bowen called on the women to fight for women who go to court seeking maintenance and are forced to go home empty-handed because the money was not there.

Your article does not make clear
whether this child support money is a taxpayer-funded thing
or is the problem with the deadbeat fathers who won't assume responsibility?

As a taxed-to-death taxpayer
I really don't see why I should be supporting other people's children!
It would be much better if some serious enforcement took place, upon the heads of deadbeat fathers
and make THEM pay for THEIR children directly!
That is my only concern.

When are you women in Barbados going to wake up! You have to get yourselves in positions to change the laws yourselves, and
make sure that they are enforced. You women just don't get it!
If the male leadership in Barbados was interested in procuring
funds for child maintenance they would have done it! You
Have women in the senate very powerful women. It simply is not a priority! The men are only interested in producing them not maintaining them! Once they can't have sexual
relations with the woman they are done paying any money for the child! Barbadian laws when it comes to this subject
of child maintenance are not conducive to producing any
funds period! They lock the men up they do their time and
that's it. They need another approach a special program just
for these type of offenders. When are you Bajan women going to wake up? The men are wide awake every since!
