DR DELISLE WORRELL has received the stamp of approval of Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler and has been given another five-year term as head of the Central Bank of Barbados.
Sinckler told the media yesterday Worrell’s contract, which should come to an end this week, had been renewed.
Worrell, who was deputy governor during the 1991 economic crisis under the Erskine Sandiford administration, is credited with helping to carve a strategy that brought Government from the brink of collapse when the country had just four weeks of import cover.
The governor was appointed on November 1, 2009, but has worked previously at the Central Bank between 1973 and 1998 before becoming deputy governor in 1990. He later resigned from the bank to take up an assignment overseas. (GE)
