BELIEVE IT OR NOT, cricket was played in Barbados yesterday despite the adverse weather, at the Beckles Road ground in St Michael and at North Stars in St Lucy.
However, it didn’t rain on YMPC’s parade at their Beckles Road home turf as they made hay in the overcast conditions to hand Her Majesty’s Prisons Officers (HMPO) their seventh straight defeat in the Barbados Cricket Association’s Intermediate competition.
Despite persistent rain on Friday and early yesterday morning, play got under way only 15 minutes late at 1:15 p.m. and continued uninterrupted until YMPC wrapped up their first victory of the season, by an innings and 51 runs at 4:50 p.m., with a day to spare.
Veteran all-rounder William Lashley starred with bat and ball and four wickets in each innings for match figures of eight for 26 runs as HMPO folded for totals of 84 and 42.
Lashley also had a knock of 66 in his team’s total of 177 for seven declared after starting the day on six not out.
In a Second Division match at Crab Hill, ESAF Pickwick made 100 for three in their 25 overs and Mount Gay North Stars responded with 82 for two in 21.1 overs when bad light stopped play. (EZS)
