THE ROAD between Sugar Hill, St Joseph and Fisher Pond, St Thomas is in need of attention.
The Prime Minister raised the road tax, yet this road that I must travel on to and from my house barely receives attention.
The roadway either side of Russia Gully is especially overgrown. Two cars cannot pass comfortably because of the "wild cane" grass growing into the road and the potholes are getting larger.
I have spoken to someone at the relevant roadworks depot several times in the past and it is always an issue to get the bush cleared from the sides. I am told they either don't have a crew or the machine is broken down.
Yet I notice crews clearing other roads throughout Barbados that don't necessarily need the work at that point. To be honest, during the past 22 months a crew was sent once to the area.
This is a high rainfall area. Regular work needs to be done and the public should not have to be the ones to instigate it.
In this past year there has been an explosion of the African snails as well as the "cow-itch" vine.
I realise that it is not a heavily trafficked area. However, aside from those living in the area, public service personnel do have to use this road.
The Sanitation Service Authority, the Barbados Postal Service, the Barbados Water Authority, and the Barbados Light & Power traverse this road, in addition to delivery trucks as there is a supermarket at the top of the hill.
Road tax was raised substantially. Yet since it was raised, the road I have to drive on has deteriorated more than in previous years.
I live in hope that someone will address this problem, in the near future.

Potholes : 11/23/2009
If the potholes in Sugar Hill get any larger the bus and trucks would eventually stop from coming through there. Public Works needs to come through and take a look at the road. We are tired of begging them after paying so much taxes.

It would seem to me that Sugar Hill only gets visited every four years and that's when the politicians are looking for votes. I visit there with my family ever so often and it's upsetting to see the big trucks speeding through that area all during the day and nights destroying the road. This is a residential neighborhood and these trucks should be banned from coming through there. The road also is very narrow and most of the homes sit very close to the road. There is an alternative route they can use but for whatever reason, they choose to come through Sugar Hill. This should be stopped. I would suggest that the residents in Sugar Hill contact the politician they put in office to get this problem resolve.
Road repairs needed : 11/18/2009
I live in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and am accustomed to safe and comfortable roads. However, on a recent to my birth place, Sugar Hill, I was not at all satisied with the road in question(Sugar Hill to Fisher's Pond) Maybe the public should make full use of that road and demand the service that they deserve Better roads are essential for the tourist industry and the general public.
Come on guys, you can do better.

Unsafe Road Conditions : 11/18/2009
Definately not a very safe road for a vintage and classic car rally would'nt you think.I remember those summer vacation days when I would leave my parents house, pass by Fisherpond's Mill yard and head on out back into the Green yonder.During those years.Mr.King the manager of the plantation kept Alsaeltions(German Shephards)and Irish Setters. Those dogs walked the yard. After leaving the plantation area the way through the Russia Gully is in a northernly direction.During those days only twelve foot high sugar cane could be seen both sides of the road.At about three quarters of a mile down the way the vegitation started to become denced and you may hear the leader monkey chatter, then a swiftness to the top of an evergreen tree, that's the inhabitants of Russia Gully making acustic sounds. We need to preserve this area as Green and make sure is by way is public safe, for visitors and 'homies'alike.I remember watching a great night rally by Andrew Phillips and his Vauxhall Ventura back in the day.
