THE LONG-MOOTED cricket museum, which is being spruced up at Herbert House on Fontabelle,
St Michael, will be a value-added product in this country's tourism sector.
On Friday, Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy said the home of the legends would be part of the tourism thrust as it was a "tremendous" property that would be "transformed not only into an administrative headquarters but a cricket museum."
He was speaking at the official opening of the new Cricket Legends of Barbados Inc. (CLOBI) store at the Grantley Adams International Airport.
"Through Barbados Tourism and Investment Inc. we have already put substantial resources into that, and we will continue to do that so Herbert House may become a legitimate tourist attraction," he said.
He said the museum would be highly promoted during the English tour which commences February 26 until late March, "so we can get a good boost getting this project started".
Sealy said the value of Herbert House spoke for itself as it was within walking distance from Kensington Oval and the Barbados Port, where cruise ship arrivals from European and Britain were on the rise and other vessels were home-ported.
"These cruises are [with] people very familiar with the game of cricket who would certainly want to make a stop of Herbert House as well as Kensington Oval. So these initiatives are going to be undertaken when we start to develop our unique products, our tourism products," he said.
