THE BARBADOS ASSOCIATION of Retired Persons (BARP) is planning to construct a $24 million retirement facility in the east of the island to cater to the elderly, both local and foreign.
With indications that Government is willing to provide much-needed concessions, BARP president Ed Bushell said the association was moving in earnest to get work started at the 6.5-acre site in St Philip and a separate, non-profit organization had been set up to operate the facility.
When completed, it will offer assisted living and nursing home care, adult day care, independent residential facilities and professional health care services. It will also have a rehabilitation centre.
“We’ve received the topographical survey and the initial estimates . . . and we have a committee that has been put together and we’re making a real serious thrust to have this dealt with,” Bushell said on VOB’s Down to Brass Tacks yesterday. (DP)
