Hammie injured in fatal crash

Hammie injured in fatal crash The accident scene where the car driven by Sylvester Brown was involved in a fatal smash-up with a SUV.

Wed, July 28, 2010 - 12:00 AM

Member of Parliament (MP) Hamilton Lashley escaped death in an accident yesterday evening that claimed the life of his chauffeur.

Sylvester Brown, of Midway Lane, The Pine, St Michael, died on the spot when the car he was driving, with Lashley at his side, was involved in a collision with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on Hanson Hill, St George, around 4:25 p.m.

Brown, 65, a long-time driver of Lashley, was a former supervisor at the National Assistance Board.

Lashley, MP for St Michael South East, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) complaining of pains to the head and right hand.

The SUV was driven by Mario Daniel-Hood, 29, of Eden Lodge, St Michael, who was the sole occupant. He, too, was taken to the QEH by ambulance, although his injuries could not be ascertained up to press time.

Brown, a divorcee, leaves to mourn a son, in his 30s, who lives in the United States.

Bajans here in New York are very saddened by the news of Hamilton Lashley’s crash. We express condolences to Sylvester Brown’s family but thank God that Hamilton Lashley is still alive. It is one thing to have our great Prime-minister ailing, but to have another great minister out would be disastrous for the poor people of Barbados.

My condolence goes out to the family of Syl Browne and
wishing Hammie Lashley MP a speedy recovery.I`m always at a lost why the drivers on
these roads always in one big hurry that they don`t have enough time to react in
any situation that arise.I was not on the scene so I can`t say who was at fault, but what I will say that speed was the problem.
The roads are not 4 or 6 lanes and there is no place
in Barbados that in 30 mins.
you can get driving at a normal speed. There is a charge call vehicular homicide.

My condolences to Mr Brown’s family.I hope Messrs Lashley and Daniel-Hood did not sustain any serious injuries. There are just too many road accidents. How much more of an appeal can be made to road users to exercise more caution?

Sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Brown.

Just today we got word of an assistant to the leader of the liberal opposition here in Canada killed in a collision with an SUV.

There are always risks we take when we travel on all highways. We just have to put our hope in God for our safety.
