‘I WANT to give God thanks for everything. I could have been dead today.”
Those were the words of Member of Parliament Hamilton Lashley yesterday, while recuperating at his Halls Road, St Michael home after an accident which claimed the life of one of his closest friends on Tuesday.
Sylvester Brown, 65, of Midway Lane, The Pine, St Michael, died on the spot while he was chauffeuring Lashley to a summer camp at South District Primary School.
The collision, involving two vehicles along Hanson Hill, St George, resulted in Lashley sustaining a fracture of his right hand in two places, as well as a bump to the head and soft tissue injury to the stomach.
“Syl Brown was my good . . . good friend. When the accident occurred I could not believe that it happened.
“I looked at Syl and I asked: Syl, you alright? you alright? He didn’t move and I didn’t know at that point he had died,” Lashley told the DAILY NATION yesterday, shaking his head in disbelief.
Among those extending well-wishes to the St Michael South East MP yesterday was Minister of Family, Youth and Sports Stephen Lashley, who paid him a visit.

Comment LinkMr Lashley, I am happy that your injuries were no more serious. Maybe there’s some more serious work to do which you were ignoring and now have a second chance to get back to. I am referring to the serious work of yorn when you first entered politics. I don’t mean what has been playing out here lately. One other thing, you need a vehicle in which you can ride comfortably. It used to be most painful to see your big frame squeezed into that (pint) sized vehicle. It equated Goliath riding on David’s back. A SPEEDY RECOVERY TO YOU.
