A home at last

They say good things come to those who wait.

Marva Best and 15 others can attest to that, after receiving the keys to their new homes at Forde’s Road, Christ Church from Prime Minister Freundel Stuart yesterday.

The homes were built by staff of the National Housing Corporation (NHC) at a cost of $2.8 million.

It was a great load off Best’s shoulders, in particular. She had been waiting 27 years for that day.

Posted by David Hall 3 months, 3 weeks ago: Congratulations to all those who at last are able finally able to claim a piece of the Rock as their own. Owning homes in Barbados through the National Hosing Corporation is nothing new: What I find really distasteful however is the fact that the current Government is using the handing over practice, which incidentally has become rather costly because of the parties and official ceremonies, as nothing more than election gimmicks and political campaigns. I resent the fact that in many instances these homes have been completed and left closed for months or over a year in some instances and suddenly in the last two weeks all the work has been completed in time for a campaign which presents photo opportunity for the various Ministers and the Prime Minister. I call this a plan as it uses people and their lives as pawns.

Posted by David Hall 3 months, 3 weeks ago: The Accomplishment is good BUT the fanfare surrounding the handing over is nothing more than a political gimmick which serves to do nothing more than perpetuate the notion that we are building a society not an economy. It encourages people to continually look to the state for everything they need: hence even though the state is broke, productive sectors are down and unemployment is soaring we have time and money to waste on elaborate celebrations. Consider the Accomplishment a job well done and get on with working on the other pertinent issues like building capacity in the various sectors of the economy as if that doesn't happen we will either have to sell the houses or suffer and die leaving them behind. Stop wasting money on the charade accompanying the completion of these projects. It was reported that the bill for one of these charades in St Philip including the stage catering, entertainers etc was several thousand.
