A time and place for everything

A time and place for everything Reverend Dr Lucille Baird. (FP)

More church leaders are venting their disgust at the disrespectful manner in which Barbadians are dressing for funerals, as well as the unruly behaviour exemplified by some.

Reverend Dr Lucille Baird, of Mount Zion’s Missions Inc., is adamant that there is a time and place for everything and the time for inappropriate dress and half-naked attire is on Kadooment Day and in the clubs and fetes.

And chairman of the Barbados Christian Council, Monsignor Vincent Blackett, has lashed out at those who throw rum and marijuana into graves.

By extension, the two are giving “1000 per cent backing” to the rector of the St Lucy Parish Church, Reverend Curtis Goodridge, who took the position to ban funerals with “mourning colours optional” request from his church. (AH)

There is a growing right wing trend creeping into our island Barbados.A conservatism which is fueling a backlash that will bring discord to the social fabric of the country.I guess when that happens they will be shouting arrest them, lock them up and don't give them any bail. The pious in Barbados are such hypocrites it make me want to puke on them.

I'm glad the church leaders are finally speaking out. But it's too bad that they are only doing so now that this type of bad behavior by some in the public has arrived at their doorstep and in their pews.
As moral leaders, it would be better if church leaders take a more proactive stance on matters of social concern.

The time for half naked attire and inappropriate dress is on Kadooment Day, in the clubs and fetes? Not true, don't even promote that, Pastor Baird. That is what we have allowed. That is where we are going wrong and we still complain about dress, behaviours and attitudes on Kadooment day. All of the nakedness seem to do is promote vulgarity. The Church is still getting it wrong.
