Appeal to buy local

Workers in Barbados’ manufacturing sector are being reminded they too must buy local if the local economy is going to thrive.
Executive Director of the Barbados Manufacturers’ Association Bobbi McKay said there was too much thoughtlessness in this regard.
“Workers have to be aware that every decision they make has an impact on jobs in this economy. There needs to be an understanding that every local product that we purchase is helping stimulate the economy . . . [but] this mental link appears to be missing,” she said.
McKay was addressing an audience of manufacturers, trade unionists and Government agencies at the launch of May Day 2010 in Solidarity House, Harmony Hall, St Michael today.
General Secretary of the Barbados Workers Union Sir Roy Trotman and Minister of Labour Esther Byer-Suckoo also addressed the launch.
Sir Roy said the occasion was about giving thanks for the value of work and urged the audience never to give up hope in these trying times. (CA)
