The close to 30 aggrieved teachers at Alexandra School are back on the job and things are reportedly “back to normal”.

After being off the job for four days, two of which were a part of industrial action, the St Peter school was back to almost full teaching strength after teachers represented by the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union heeded the instruction to return to work yesterday. And according to Chief Education Officer Laurie King, everything is settled at the school.

King spent part of the morning session at the school, and was there to see first-hand how the different players involved in the situation related to each other.

The teachers’ return could not come soon enough for some of the parents who dropped off their charges to begin the second week of the term. (YB/TB)

Mr. King did a wise thing in going to the school to observe first-hand what was going on and how the teachers related or interacted with each other, and I feel this should have been done by the previous administration before things got out of hand.
However, I feel that he is only fooling himself if he thinks that all is now well at the school. He needs to pay (unannounced) visits to the school at other times. People generally 'behave' when they are aware that they are being watched/observed, so to catch them when they are 'unaware' would be a better thing to do. Only then would he get a true picture!

To CEO Laurie King - First off he did not act as if he was in AUTHORITY when this School was DISRUPTED by Mary Redman and her Followers in the BSTU, and now after a walk about at the school, he is Making a HUGE Statement to the Bajan Public, thinks are Quote: “back to normal”. I am going to assume that he has more qualifications than i do,so i am hoping that he will take off the BLINKERS and see what is happening around him. Mary Redman now has EXPECTATIONS that Jeff Broomes will be Sent on Special Leave with Full Pay,that is the Equivilant of telling the Bajan People that he has been found GUILTY OF SOMETHING, even before there is a TRIAL, so when she finds out that this is not going to happen,I am Going to Guarantee you all that she WILL LEAD HER FOLLOWERS OUT ON STRIKE AGAIN.remember!!! You saw it here first. If Laurie King Has any ....he will do the right thing that should have been done in the first place, and remove those 30 Teachers from that school Forthwith.

@ Tony Waterman: To say that the sending of someone on Special Leave with full pay is the equivalent of telling sensible people that that person is guilty of something betrays both a fundamental ignorance of the law and a contempt for the intelligence of "the Bajan People" of which I am one. It is so disappointing that such blanket statements can be made. Many people do still THINK and are aware of the law. Mr Waterman, being sent on "Special Leave with full pay" does NOT cast guilt on that person. Being sent on "Special Leave with full pay" can NOT be used against that person to imply guilt. Any law student will tell you this. "The Bajan People" to whom you refer are capable of understanding the law. Please speak from a position of knowledge.

@Althea Verty!!! my main concern is not how many people/Persons Knows the law, my main concern is their PERCEPTION of what is happening. your attack on me tells me that YOU are the type of person who is part of the Problem instead of a part of the solution. Up to this point 23 of those same Bajan people of which you are one have agreed with me.
