A drug bust by Barbados police at Grantley Adams International Airport almost two years ago has led to two British citizens facing lengthy prison sentences in England.

The incident prompted a visit to the island by detectives of the renowned investigative body, Scotland Yard.

Lloyd McCalla, 51, of Dagenham, and Carlene Wilson, 27, of Ilford, were found guilty last Friday at Croydon Crown Court of conspiracy to supply cocaine valued about BDS$1.24 million. They are due to be sentenced on February 10, along with McCalla’s son Ryan, 30.

The conspiracy charge arose out of a police bust at the airport on February 27, 2010, when five female drug mules were arrested with three suitcases of cocaine attempting to board a flight to England.

As a result, Donna Roberts, 52, and Tamriyat Adeshina, 23, both of Surrey, England, pleaded guilty and were sentenced to four years in prison at Her Majesty’s Prisons Dodds for various drug-related offences, including possession of over ten kilogrammes of cocaine each, while Sandra Matthews was given four years after pleading guilty to conspiracy to supply the drug.
