Barbados’ two major political parties are reaching out in different ways next month to the Bajan community in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
Opposition Leader Mia Mottley will be heading to New York City at the head of a Barbados Labour Party (BLP) delegation to participate in a town hall meeting in Brooklyn designed to exchange ideas and information with members of the diaspora about the economic and social opportunities and challenges confronting Barbados.
That session, scheduled for Saturday, June 1, is being sponsored by the party’s branch in the United Sates, A Better Life for our People and is to be held at the Friends of Crown Heights Educational Centres, 671 Prospect Place, in the afternoon.
“It’s important that the party and Ms Mottley reach out to the diaspora to talk about the issues facing our country and listening to how Barbadians feel about the course we should take,” said Jessica Odle-Baril, who served as consul general in the City during 2003–2008 but currently lives on Long Island.  (TB)
