We want Almond
Bjorn Bjerkhamn: interested in owning Almond Beach Village.
By Tim Slinger | Wed, April 18, 2012 - 12:08 AM
THE FIGHT FOR OWNERSHIP of Almond Beach Village is heating up.
Yesterday, construction magnate Bjorn Bjerkhamn of Jada Construction Limited pulled out the nationality card as he openly declared his strong interest in taking over the St Peter hotel.
“We are Bajans; we are not Jamaicans nor are we Canadians,” Bjerkhamn told the MIDWEEK NATION yesterday, in an obvious reference to two of the main bidders – Jamaican hotelier Gordon “Butch” Stewart of the Sandals all-inclusive hotel group and Canadian-born Paul Doyle, owner of the Crane Resort.
“We have the experience, we have the expertise and we have the money,” he added.

Comment LinkHe is not like Butch Stewart, who looks for tax and other concessions, then up and run after a few years or days. Case in point his involvement with this fiasco that we are now saddle with, which once was Paradise hotel. Remember him then?
The type of tourism that Butch Stewart, want to bring to Barbados, is the low budget traveler, for there is no way for the all inclusive model to survive without massive concessions. The Barbados brand of tourism will be ruined by this low budget model of tourism., it Butch Stewart get involved.
We must not allow for brand of tourism to be sullied by Stewart's knock off brand also known as the "Canal Street"' of tourism. Think of it as moving from a five star Hotel to a Motel 6.
In particular, if you see take at the look at the body of work that Mr. Berjerkhamn has done, you will see a vision of Barbados becoming a Monaco of the Caribbean. That is what we must continue to aspire to do with the Almond hotel.
Thank you Mr. Bjjerkhamn, for coming forward, and good luck to you. Those of us who work in the industry, trust your judgement over Butch Stewart's.
