LEADERS Barbados Defence Force (BDF) could become the new Digicel Premier League football champions tonight without kicking a ball.
That’s because second place Mackeson Brittons Hill, the only team that can overtake BDF, must win their 9 p.m. clash with Claytons Kola Tonic Notre Dame, who have slipped to sixth place on 24 points.
Should Brittons Hill lose or draw, BDF would be assured of their third top-flight league title.
BDF have 37 points from 16 games while Brittons Hill are on 29 points from 15 matches.
Apart from tonight’s encounter, Brittons Hill’s two other matches are against Gall Hill (June 23) and Paradise (July 4) and they must win all three games while hoping that BDF are beaten by both Dayrells Road (June 27) and Youth Milan (July 3) in their last games.
In the opening game at 7 p.m., Cosmos could safeguard their Premiership spot by defeating Gall Hill but that won’t be an easy task against a side looking to finish in the top three.
Gall Hill are coming off a massive 8-3 thrashing of Dayrells Road with four goals by 18-year-old striker Jabarry Chandler. He is the Premiership’s joint top goalscorer on 11 goals with Tristan Parris of Dayrells Road. (EZS)
