Chairman of the Alexandra School, Keith Simmons, yesterday blasted Ministry of Education officials for their handling of the situation at the school.

"They were totally incompetent," Simmons, a former Minister of Education, told a Commission of Inquiry at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex.

Simmons, into his third day of testimony, said that during the recent impasse at the school he had written ministry officials on several matters which up to yesterday had not been dealt with.

He cited one regarding hockey coach Roger Broomes as an example.

Simmons said the ministry was written because the coach, who is cousin of school principal Jeff Broomes, had been involved in at least four disciplinary matters over a nine-month period.

It's getting close to my thoughts - incompetence and ineptitude in that Ministry. All that is being revealed is more of the circus ride but when they get around to stabbing at the meat of the matter, that will be the real Bud and Lou showdown.

I hope that people are beginning to understand why this mess was going on so long. The Ministry seems to have dropped the ball. They seemed not to know what to do. I hope that the relevant authorities know what they ought to do...

this was my position from the first time this issue caught my attention. I am a labour/trade unionist, and yes I was in favour of the BSTU, but my question was, how could a teacher not teach a class for a whole term and nothing was done about it? Many of my comments to this issue was either edited or omitted. but as someone said 'wha doan come out in the wash gon come out pon de line',and I must admit "one ting dat this commission will achieve is to bring theskeletons and whateva else out de closet... i dunn wid dat"
