For the first time in the history of the National Sports Council Pine Hill Dairy Primary Schools’ Netball Competition, Charles F. Broome Memorial have made it to the finals.
Retaining three members of last year’s squad that placed fourth in the zone, Charles F. Broome improved to second behind last year’s finalists Belmont Primary.
In a keenly contested semi-final at the Netball?Stadium yesterday, they edged Grantley Prescod Primary 6-5.
Brianna Holder, daughter of former national player and current coach of Pine Hill St Barnabas and UWI Blackbirds, Margaret Cutting, showed there was something to be said about genetics.
She shot from outside of her range and helped her school to a 3-0 lead within the first five minutes.
Sarina McCarthy added the other two goals.
Showing clear signs of nervousness, Grantley Prescod fought bravely, trying to come from behind. Tricia Phillips scored three from four and Lashawnda Edwards had two from two, but they were unable to overcome the 4-2 deficit at half-time.
The other semi-final between St Andrew’s and Reynold Weekes Primary will be played tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at the Netball Stadium.
The final is scheduled for Monday at the Wildey Gymnasium. It will be preceded by the shooting competition and the third-place play-off. (SAT)
Summarized score:
Charles F. Broome 6 (Sarina McCarthy 2/3, Brianna Holder 4/5).    Grantley Prescod 5 (Lashawnda Edwards 2/2, Tricia Phillips 3/4. Half-time: 4-2.
