Cry for justice

Cry for justice BISHOP MARLON HUSBANDS: It was only fair that the blood of the perpetrators is shed.

Mon, September 06, 2010 - 12:00 AM

A CHURCH LEADER is praying for the capture of the two villains responsible for the blaze that led to the death of six young women.

Yesterday morning before his congregation at Sanctuary Empowerment Centre on Country Road, Bishop Dr Marlon Husbands asked God to close the door of escape on the two men, who robbed and torched Campus Trendz clothing store on Tudor Street, The City, Friday night.

Stressing that his heart was weeping for the relatives of the victims, Husbands said God was capable of giving comfort “and hastening the justice due in this situation”.

“God is a God of justice and I pray that the perpetrators of this vicious act be captured speedily.

“I believe that the church has a role to play in beckoning God to really bring these perpetrators to justice and close every door of escape possible. That’s my heart. I am praying that something breaks soon in this investigation,” he said.

Husbands said it was only fair that the blood of the perpetrators is shed.

“It was said from the Old Testament times, that if a man sheds blood, his blood should be shed. That concept for me has not changed.

“It does not disregard the man’s salvation. If a thief gets caught, and he gives his life to the Lord, he still has to go to jail. Equally, these persons need to pay for what they have done.”

Husbands said that the church cannot sit back and not be involved in what is a national issue.

“Everything that affects the nation affects the church. People who attend church are very much a part of the community. We also preach of a God who is able and capable of meeting their needs and it is our prayer that God will meet our national need of getting these perpetrators caught.

“Justice is one of those things that God is very much involved with. As a matter of fact, God’s hand of love and God’s hand of justice is the same hand. Justice primarily speaks of persons being treated fairly and it is only but fair for perpetrators to be met with the requisite payment.

“As a minister of the Gospel, God doesn’t only pay us in chips and blessings, we also pay for the wrong we do and God’s eyes are not closed.”

One of the highlights of the service was a dance routine from the Mahabir brothers, Larry and Barry, from Trinidad. Larry told the congregation about a teenaged boy who had turned his back on Jesus, was later afflicted with a stroke and then had to seek divine help.

That boy who was partially disfigured and could barely walk, was Larry.

In another service yesterday, Reverend Wayne Kirton, from the Church Of St John The Baptist, also referred to last Friday night’s deadly inferno, and noted it was time for “the church to declare its righteous anger, against what is happening.”

“Friday night is just one little bit of the negatives in this society. If we look around carefully, there is no respect for law and order any place in this country. And, until we as Christians recognise the importance of who we are to be in this society, things will never change for the better.”

“We could never hope to restore the goodness of this country if we believe that it is simply about the 30 people that sit in Parliament. It is about each and everyone of us seeking to make the positive difference of those we come into contact with,” he said.

Bishop, all I can say is AMEN, because the NationNews
has not printed the various comments that I have made on this national out cry. I know what I have written and I stand behind it. We need to be fearless when we are standing up for JUSTICE. The Nation not printing people’s opinion can not take them from their hearts.

Those perpetrators must understand the nature of they crime and be dealt with severely. I pray to God that there is no escape for such a crime. May the victims rest in God grace.

Amen and Amen, this is exactly my sentiment. The church is the salt of the earth and the light of the world and it is time for christians to take a stand and make a difference in the community. Politics has its place but christians are used by God to change lives and that is exactly what they need to do. Pray for Justice to be served upon the criminals.

I agree with this blogger. I note that some comments are not posted for whatever reason. Maybe the NATION should not ask for the people’s comments if they don’t want to hear what the people have to say. This is why we have a democracy.

The only way that I can try to understand this grief is if I imagine one of my family members caught in that fatal blaze.

I do not know what I would do if I saw the perpetrators in front of me - but it would probably be a very irrational reaction.

I’ve heard people say bring back the gallows, and I must say that I do not agree with that.  The death penalty is not something that should be considered when you are full of anger and hate - it won’t bode well for the future.

I hope these murderers are caught, and I wish for them to understand and be reminded daily for a very long time, of the hurt they have caused all these families - I think that would be more along the lines of justice.

In terms of law and order on a whole: We need to look at what creates such criminal behaviour rather than just use prison as a band-aid.  Cause even though you cover it up, it is still there - and it would only get worse with time.

If anybody seen even the slightest thing related to this evil travesty, the police should be informed. There should be an outpouring of information, anonymous or public to get these felons. It is about time and this is certainly the right time for everyone and anyone to get involve to protect Barbados from this scum of the earth.

There are two issues surrounding this tragedy….Yes these two criminals deserve the death penalty…the only fitting punishment for such a crime but what is more important here is that ordinances must be now put in place where all stores/places of business must have an exit…It must be a
mandatory law….hindsight is `20/20 vision but if there was an exit those people would not have died.

MY comment relates to the fact that I was a returning national who opened a small business and closed it soon after, for fear of getting into trouble with the law, after youths threatened my life , because I reported their drug peddling close to my establishment. The police seem to be afraid to deal severely with the lawlessness that was being perpetrated .
I have since left the country because the police did not aid me, and the owner of the complex did nothing as well.
My heart goes out to those families who tonight are suffering their loss.

May they rest in peace and rise in glory.
A chain of these families has been broken and it looks like nothing seems the same , but God has call them one by on these chains will link again.

We must Pray for the person who done this

My take on this is different. If the law of the earth does not hold the perpetrators the God that made the earth will and I know his justice is the best we can get.Instead of calling for the hangman’s noose we as a society has a task before hand . Every child was born into a family .Even if they are orphans now .Parents need to stop being hypocritical .All may be shouting hang them while they have criminals living in their homes and those who at young ages are showing criminal tendencies . When a child is wrong as painful as it may be admit it seek the help needed .The priest who you shy away from ,the teachers whom you bad talk ,the family members who are trying their best. Help is out there . Let us be a more vigilant society and stop being selfish .When you see wrong speak up and out .You not wanting to get “cussed or killed will give these villians more power . Politicians must do what is good for the country and not what is for them to win a seat the next election.

I hope all the families find solace.

Should the Church be allowed to request punishment for a crime? I am not a biblical scholar but in the New Testament, it says that God is forgiving. God decides what is best for the victims and the vilains. For a Bishop to pray for punishment really begs the question. Bishop Husbands stated “it was only fair that the blood of the perpetrators is shed.”
I believe he is out of place and should leave this to the justice system. Whilst Christ lay dying in pain on the cross, he still asked for forgiveness for the robbers.
This brings me to the point. From the report, Bishop Husbands clearly reminds us that the church should be involved in political issues. However his remarks calling for divine punishment is one reason why people should vote. Imagine if the Bishop sat on a Death Panel. It is dangerous for any society, when officials in the church are allowed to make callous pronouncements under the guise of the cloth.
