DEAR CHRISTINE: Can’t get him to stop watching porn

Dear Christine,
I read in one of your columns last week that quite a number of persons are hooked on pornography. Well, I am one of those people whose spouse is addicted to porn. No matter how I try to get him to stop watching these blue movies, he refuses to stop.
Christine, many times he would sit for hours in front of the television just watching this crap. He has tried to encourage me to do the same but I refuse to do so on the grounds that I am simply not interested in these movies.
It is true that the first time he brought home tapes – that was over 13 years ago – I watched a few but then I realized they had nothing to offer me.
He cannot seem to help himself and I am unsure what to do. We have a son, thank God, who is old enough to know right from wrong. To date I am happy that he has never seen his father viewing these movies, who watches them in the privacy of his room.
What can I do to convince my husband that this is wrong and that I do not feel he should be watching them, even in the privacy of our home?
– MLE
Dear MLE,
I honestly do not think that I can help you on this one.
Your husband is watching these in the privacy of his home and you are the wife in the home. I don’t know if it is reassuring to tell you that at least you can be comfortable with the fact that he is doing this at home and not somewhere else.
There are certain boundaries when it comes to husbands and wives that people on the outside must not cross. So if you have spoken to your husband about this and he refuses to stop, there is no advice I can give to you at this point that will make him change. Sorry! You two will have to work this out on your own.
– CHRISTINE
