Environmental lesson at the movies

STUDENTS of the St Bartholomew’s, St Christopher’s and Holy Innocents Primary Schools, as well as Wesley Hall Infants’ School, sat with their popcorn at their sides, as they anxiously awaited the screening of a movie called The Lorax.
This wasn’t just any other movie; the 300 students also received an environmental message as part of World Day To Combat Desertification And Drought, which was observed on Sunday.
Environmental officer with the Ministry of Environment, Kim Downes-Agard, who shared an environmental conservation message with the children, said the theme for Desertification Day was Healthy Soils Sustain Your Life and it was linked with themes depicted in the movie.
Downes-Agard said the Dr Seuss movie showed the negative effects of the removal of trees in term of air quality, the biodiversity loss and all the negative threats they could pose to the environment. (ND/LK)
